Hello Fellow Trakkers !
This could be the greatest skiing season in a long time. There is still plenty of snow in ski country. We could be running buses until the beginning of April if this wonderful winter weather stays with us !
We have had 2 buses every week-end. It looks like it will be the case again this Sunday. Don’t forget to sign up before 9 pm tonight !
Tell your friends that we are offering a reduced membership fee for people who would like to join Trakkers for the balance of the season. A great deal given the fact that we seem to be heading for a protracted season ! Send them the www.trakkers.ca link.
On March 28, we will have a gala evening combining our Annual General Meeting and Year-End Dinner. We will also honor a few long-standing members of Trakkers and share this year’s stories. It will be held at the Swansea Town Hall (95 Lavinia Avenue). Click here for more details. I will be selling tickets on the bus until March 23.
You will receive shortly a formal notice, a nomination and consent form as well as a proxy form for the AGM. Please do not hesitate to put your name forward if you like to be part of the executive board next year. A nomination committee is currently putting a slate of candidates. Contact me if you would like to help us next year. Any member can also run for a position during the AGM.
Our photo contest has been a great success. It also generated a huge increase in the popularity of our Facebook page. This week, we are offering a $ 50.00 MEC gift certificate for the best picture of the season. Thank you to Christina and Carolyn for organising the contest this year!
During the off-season, we organise events once a month (hike, bike-ride, visit etc.). Let me know if you would like to lead such an activity.
We are seeking your input or recommendation on a destination (resort, cottages) for the next ski season, preferably within say 2.5 hours drive from Toronto. We are thinking of trying the Parry Sound area, or over in the Kawartha or Haliburton area. Please send your suggestions to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Jack Porter, the club president during the early years when we were with the Y, and again when we went independent in 1986 has died.
PORTER, Jack – Suddenly, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto, on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, Mr. John Charles Porter of Toronto, in his 66th year. He will be remembered by his brothers Robert and Carmen Porter of London, and Doug and Pat Porter of Listowel, and by his extended family. Private family services have been entrusted to the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
Jack probably stopped skiing with the club in the early 90’s, so would not be known to most members. I remember him best for the trips he ran to Jay Peak, Vermont, where he taught me the joys and rewards of bushwacking. A wonderful organizer and leader for the club in its early years, and has a well deserved place on the Bernie Award.
I have posted regular Sunday Trips blogs lately. You can see the list on : https://trakkersskiclub.wordpress.com/
