Weekend Trips Preview

Dates and pricing for Trakkers’ 2015 Weekend Trips are now being set. Registration for each trip will kick-off at the Open House (so another reason to come out to join us). We’ll be accepting registrations at the Open House on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring payment to the Open House to reserve your spot!

Whether you want a rustic or more luxurious skiing weekend experience, we’ve got something for everyone:

January 16-18 — Farmhouse at Highlands Nordic in the Collingwood area. The Farmhouse is directly connected to Highlands’ Nordic ski centre, so you can walk out the door to be on the trails or go snow-shoeing. The Farmhouse has space for 18 skiers, with 7 beds in the large common loft area (rustic and cozy!) Price is $30-$55 per person.

February 6-8 — Blue Spruce Resort in the Dwight / Huntsville area. We’ll have 3 of the resort’s well appointed cottages (whirlpood baths, fully equipped kitchens, fireplaces, DVD players). Nearby skiing at Algonquin or Arrowhead. Space for a total of 15 people including 3 rooms for couples. Price is $130 per person.

February 20-22 — resort in the Kawartha, Parry Sound or Haliburton are — final details on resort location to be confirmed. Look for updates in the President’s Broadcast and come to the Open House to register!

Think You Could Be an Instructor?

Think your snowplow is stellar? Want to demonstrate your double poling? Know what these terms mean and would enjoy teaching them and other ski techniques? Consider becoming a cross-country ski instructor for the club and give the gift of skiing to others as a volunteer.

Trakkers members consistently tell us that free lessons by instructors certified by the Canadian Alliance of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) are a big drawing card for new and returning members. As we have fewer instructors now due to attrition, we are doing an active promotion to expand the number of our Level I CANSI instructors.

The certification requires successful completion of a 2-day weekend course, and will take your own skiing to a whole new level and provide an opportunity to give back to the club! CANSI also offers Level I certification for classic instruction only, so you don’t need to know how to ski both classic and skate styles.

For anyone who completes the Level I training and commits to teach with the club for a period of time, the club reimburses the costs of the CANSI training, certification and trail/bus fees while teaching as an incentive. If you’re interested, please contact Steve Favell, Ski School Coordinator, at lessons@trakkers.ca or 416-233-5324.

For more information on CANSI, go to www.cansi.ca/en/about/who-we-are/
