Keep the momentum going with Virtual Marathons and Runs

Keeping fit all winter and wondering how to keep the momentum going?

Trying to wake up from hibernating all winter?

With the City of Toronto extending the cancellation of in-person major outdoor events to July 1, regularly scheduled marathons and runs are going virtual. Here’s more about the Toronto Marathon, Sporting Life 10k, Toronto Women’s Half Marathon/10k/5k, and Run for Women.

Toronto Marathon

January 25 to May 31, 2021

Typically held in early May, the Toronto Marathon runs from Mel Lastman Square to Ontario Place. It is known to be downhill, scenic and fast and sees participants from around the world.

For the virtual version, there are four distances available for participants to run or walk as noted below. Registration fees range from $35 to $45 and include virtual tracking through the ASICS Runkeeper App or app of choice, virtual race bib, downloadable custom branded finisher’s certificate, race medal, event shirt, and promo codes to the ASICS online store and from sponsors.

  1. Virtual Marathon
  2. Virtual Half Marathon
  3. Virtual 10K
  4. Virtual 5K

The fundraising organizations are The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, SickKids Foundation, Canadian Mental Health Association, and Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Sporting Life 10k

In its 21st year, the Sporting Life Virtual 10K is in support of Camp Ooch. There are two options available as noted below. The registration fees are $60 and $120 respectively, and include an event shirt, exclusive finisher medal, Sporting Life 10k promotional code and a virtual run bib.

  1. Sporting Life Virtual 10k – run or walk 10km
  2. Sporting Life Virtual 10k Challenge – run or walk 10km ten times

Toronto Women’s Half Marathon/10k/5k

May 23 to June 6, 2021

As the name suggests, the Toronto Women’s Virtual Half Marathon/10k/5k offers three distances for participants to run or walk as noted below.  Registration fees range from $50 to $60 and include a women’s specific souvenir race shirt, 10k/5k finisher medal or half marathon necklace designed by Foxy Originals, $25 Asics e-card (requires minimum spend of $100), race bib, and other sponsor offerings.

  3. 5km

The fundraising partner for this event is the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario.

Run for Women

July 4 and 11, 2021

The Run for Women is taking place virtually across 18 cities in Canada with proceeds ($35 of registration fee) going to local charities for women’s mental health. In Toronto, the event is in support of the Women’s Mental Health Program at Women’s College Hospital.  A Run for Women Day in Canada Live Stream event will be held on July 11, 2021.

Participants can choose from two distances to run or walk as noted below. The registration fee is $40 and includes a “legendary” swag bag, official Run for Women UNSTOPPABLE Bracelet, and official Run for Women technical t-shirt. 

  1. 5K Virtual Walk/Run
  2. 10K Virtual Walk/Run
